Foden Trucks' origins date back to 1856 when Edwin Foden began his career with a small engineering company near Sandbach in Cheshire that would become Foden Trucks, in 2006 celebrating 150 years of its enviable history.

The Foden name became synonymous with a reputation for quality engineering and played a key role in the evolution of commercial road transport both in the UK and around the world through the steam era, into the diesel age up to the present day.

In 1980 Foden became a divison of PACCAR Inc, one of the world's largest and most financially stable heavy truck manufacturers. Alongside other PACCAR owned truck brands, Kenworth and Peterbilt in the USA, and DAF in Europe(from 1996), Foden continued to develop and manufacture trucks to meet the requirements of operators in the UK and New Zealand until the Foden brand was retired from new vehicle production in July 2006.

Operators of Foden vehicles continue to be supported by a network of Foden Parts and Service Dealers providing aftermarket support throughout the UK. A comprehensive range of parts for Foden and other vehicle marques is available through Foden Parts and Service Dealers.
Foden Assist provides Foden operators with 24 hour, 365 day roadside assistance for all the trucks in their fleet in case of breakdown.

In 1975 Nortern Coounties Engineering collaborated with Foden Ltd, a well-known manufacturer of commercial vehicles, to produce a semi-integral double-deck vehicle intended to compete with chassis manufacturer Leyland. Leyland had merged with traditional rival Daimler and was experiencing production and quality problems. In the event, only seven Foden-NC's were produced, going to Greater Manchester PTE, West Midlands PTE, West Yorkshire PTE, Derby Corporation Transport and Potteries Motor Traction.
